I guess you gotta give it up to Audie's Olympic, the place brings in some different stuff. Sometimes we see bands come through there that we're all like "What in the hell is this, anyway?" Tonight is one of those times with Bob Wayne and the Outlaw Carnies.
The follow vid gives you an idea of the previously unknown sound. (Heads up: Not Safe for Work-y):
Fresno can easily be more bike friendly. For many reasons, two being it wouldn't be all that hard and Portland is better than us at it - it's annoying when Portland does things better. We're flat, on a grid and it rarely rains, all ingredients for a good bike city. Hell, Portland is wet and hilly and they're, like, the bike capitol and stuff.
One simple idea: Better bike racks. Just look what the Madison Mallards baseball team did. (Are you listening Chuckchanski Park?) Any semi major business or public place should be required to have dedicated bike racks, just like they have parking stalls. (More than a couple metal bars stuck in a corner of the shopping center, anyway.)
If you watch the video below, you'll see what innovative bike parking can do for business. Totally could see this in front of the Revue:
MORE BIKE BACKING
>If you've been thinking about biking to work, the city of Fresno has some reasons why you should make the move to pedal power.
Full disclosure: At Fresnan HQ, we aren't going around biking
everywhere. Totally mean to, though. For realz. We're just waiting for
more bike racks is all.
For some time we've been blogging-at-the-bit, waiting to truly say a Fresno music artist has "made it." Well, we may only have to wait until September (no jinxy, no jinxy, no jinxy) because that's when Fashawn's new album "Boy Meets World" drops (September 1st). There's that and Fashawn is playing some dates on the Rock The Bells tour with Evidence and Alchemist.
That, is a pretty damn big tour.
Fashawn was in LA recently, giving Los Angelsans... angelsians... anglos... So Cal people, a preview of Boy Meets World. Video evidence:
Tonight, after a series of vans taking dumps and other sorts of reasons for show cancellations, music returns to Starline on a Tuesday.
It's all about mixing Fresno bands this evening with Falsett leading the Tuesday return (after their own hiatus) along with fellow Fresnans and indie/alt band Greener By Color (featured in the Bee last week) and "happy" hardcore-ers, Heroes Are Forever.
Yes. We are the greeniest green city in the Central Valley for recycling and junk. But, apparently we suck at conserving our water, as this video produced by somebody with a nice camera proves:
For last Thursday night, this blog would like to thank: Audie's Olympic, promoters and awesome flier designers Love The Captive, the bands Fay Wrays, Elmo Marconi, Victory Jump and Big Balls. But, not least, the Valley folks that came out and had fun with us. It went as well as we could have hoped and the mix of bands ended up working...we think.
And for those that couldn't make it, we ain't mad at ya. In fact, we'd like to show you a sampling of the music that you missed:
It's 1:01 on a Saturday night and that means it's time to determine the bloggiest moment from a weeks worth of Fresno blogging and this week, there are two "moments" to choose from:
MOMENT ONE: Blogger Edward Stewart notices the front section of the Sunday Bee has more ads than articles. The Fresno Bee's Beehive bloggers, Heather McLane and Mike Oz (on edge from previous scraps) were ready to defend the Bee before Ed's post even came out, so as a result, a BLOG WARR ensues. Gotta love a good local blog war.
MOMENT TWO: When you marry the traffic of the Beehive with a good question, a bloggy baby is born. Joan Obra, occasional blogger on the hive, simply asks readers how they feel about Fresno dancing ordances in restaurants and Fresno's interents respond.
Can't decide who wins...I mean moment one has an awesome BLOG WAR but moment two has the inevitable Footloose and Kevin Bacon reference. Hmmmmm.
Gotta go with Moment One. Nothing beats a BLOG WARR among local bloggers. Nothing.
Hey America! Happy Birthday from The Fresnan! And don't light my roof on fire with your illegalness...yeah I'm talking to you, jackass from down the street that's been setting off M80s and bottle rockets for the past month, you can knock it off now.
All our blogging power is on empty this morning because of all the music and beer and good times last night. So, this Friday's Fresgeek is not going to be up to snuff. Sorry. But we've still managed to get a flier posted.
We feel bad, you should check on Mike Oz's blog for more going on this weekend like the opening of the biggest BMX park, only ever. Maybe we'll be an X-Games city one day after all:
Sure, we want to celebrate podcasting for four years and, yes, we want to drink tonight. But, honestly we really want people to check out some Fresno bands for free. We love supporting our music scene and a podcast party is as a good excuse to do it as any.
But who the hell are these bands that are playing anyway? Well, if you must know:
FAY WRAYS These guys are this blogs favorite band in town. The Fay dudes use every ounce of themselves when they're playing. You want to grit your teeth and quietly say "Fuck yeah!" to yourself while watching them. Check 'em, with some creative sound editing:
The Fresnan is a cityblog influenced by fig orchards, Kopi's hairline, tamales and driving the wrong way on downtown streets.
If you would like to send us some tamales, Fresno tips, press kits, advertising questions or just general niceness, email us
